Our mission is to unite the body of Christ around a common purpose.

Our History

Movement | DFW was first conceived in a conversation between Mac Pier, Tim Keller, and Bob Doll. They recognized that cities throughout the world were facing three common challenges. First the aging of Christianity, then the speed and growth of migration into cities, and finally the division in the church racially and denominationally. The first Movement Day Expression took place in Manhattan in 2010 hosted by Movement.org. Four years later Movement | DFW was launched in 2014 as the first global expansion city of Movement.org. to provide a platform for a Unified City through a Unified Church across DFW.

These COLD HARD FACTS are difficult to comprehend.

City-Wide Spiritual Transformation:
• Only 56% of DFW residents say they are part of a Religion

Childhood Poverty Alleviation:
• Dallas is #3 in the Top 10 Cities in the Nation in Childhood Poverty and Fort Worth is #12 in the Top 20 Cities – most DFW residents don’t even know this is a problem
• 31% of Dallas Children live in Poverty and 25% in Fort Worth – 7 out of 10 Elementary campuses are “High Poverty”

Early Childhood Education Transformation:
• Only 30% of 3rd Graders can read at their grade level in DFW – a proven key indicator of the troubled life these children will have in society
• 21% of Dallas County is illiterate where only 4% of HS Seniors read at their grade level
• Dallas has the largest U.N. Refugee Resettlement population in the Nation
• Over 239 different languages are spoken in DFW

Millennial Gospel Movement in 2022:
• Only 2 in 10 Americans under 30 believe attending a church is important or worthwhile (an all-time low)
• 59% of millennials raised in a church have dropped out
• 35% of millennials have an anti-church stance, believing the church does more harm than good

The Goal & Strategy

THE GOAL is to convene and collaborate with the faith community from all quadrants of DFW.
THE STRATEGY is to identify like-minded DFW leaders who desire to design, mobilize and invest in a long–term strategy that will impact the City for the sake of the gospel. THE RESULT will be the creation of specific plans and actions to accelerate or incubate best practices to address the issues facing the City and to serve as the focus of the combined efforts of hundreds of organizations throughout DFW.

The thrust of this initiative is to create collaborative relationships among church, faith-based nonprofits, and market place leaders to have greater impact on the spiritual and social needs of the city. Movement Day is not a programmatic ministry with easily measurable metrics. It is a platform designed to incubate and accelerate ministries to have greater impact by working together.

At its inception, Movement | DFW worked with Jim Denison of the Denison Forum on Truth and Culture to determine the greatest needs plaguing the DFW area.  These facts became the directional focus of the areas Movement | DFW would drive towards a positive change for the City.

Key to the 2018 efforts are Strategy & Action Plans for our Core Areas of Engagement:

  • Racial Reconciliation and Unity
  • City-Wide Spiritual Transformation
  • Poverty Alleviation and Job Creation for those most in need
  • Education Transformation and Protecting our Children who are at Risk

With continued input from core stakeholders, Movement | DFW will work with some of the best in-class providers of solutions for these core strategy areas and create specific plans to educate and engage the local churches in addressing these issues.
